The 10 Steps to Giving Up Your Designer Handbag Addiction

If you can’t open your closet because it is so stuffed with designer handbags that if you even turn the knob, a tidal wave of purses will turn your bedroom into a mess, you need help. If you are trying, unsuccessfully, to curb your designer handbag addiction, here are 10 steps to help you give up your designer purse curse.

Giving up your straight-up Handbag addiction!

Unlike with a lot of self-help programs, you don’t want to try and go cold turkey and stop buying handbags altogether. If you are addicted to handbags it won’t work. The first step is to realize that you can't stop your addiction suddenly.

The second step is to make a budget. You aren’t just going to make a budget for your handbags, listing exactly how many Marc Jacobs you can buy versus Coach bags. You are going to make a budget for everything in your life including rent, utilities and car insurance. Yes, it's a drag, but you have to do it.

Now that you have your budget in hand, you are going to limit how many purses you purchase. If you only have $100 extra in your budget, and the Marc Jacobs Clutch costs about $400, you will now know that you can afford to buy one every three months, instead of buying the green leather one and the black one at the same time.

If you are having a problem keeping your willpower to not buy a designer handbag, you are going to want to prevent a rash purchase. 20 years ago you would just put the money into a bank, which would have pretty much prevented you from buying a handbag, but with shopping online and ATMs, you are going to want to literally freeze your plastic. Get a big container, fill it with water, put your credit cards in it, and stick it in the freezer. That way, if you want to make a purchase you have to wait for the money to thaw out.

Try to avoid temptations. Throw away the tabloids or just don't purchase them to avoid seeing handbags. If you look in some of these rags, you'll see that every week a new celebrity is carrying around a different designer handbag. Sure, it's nice to see who has the same bag that you want, but it's just too tempting to buy the latest it-bag.

If you are feeling a bit depressed about not having the latest bag, organize your own collection. Even if you only have a couple of purses, you can spend the time that you would normally spend shopping doing a bit of work on them.

If you are sick and tired of carrying around the same handbag, you may want to take some of your older bags out of retirement. Sure, they may have been popular couple years ago, but that doesn't mean you still can't carry them around today. A good handbag will always be a good handbag.

To get something new into your wardrobe, you may have to trade or borrow. Hey, it's won’t cost you a lot of money, and no one has to know it’s not yours.

Handbags are expensive things to collect, so you may want to start on another collection. Why not start a stamp collection? Stamps are only $.49 so you could literally buy hundreds of them (if not thousands) for the price of one handbag.

If it is that tough to give up your handbag addiction, you may just want go ahead and buy one. You’ll be disappointed in yourself, but at least you will have the satisfaction of carrying around the latest bag!

Why Are Designer Purses Getting So Expensive?

Authentic designer handbags have always been pricey, but now more than ever you see designer handbags priced in the $10,000+ zone. Most of these designer purses are all special edition and only a certain number are made but still is the Louis Vuitton tribute patchwork bag really worth $42,000? Now im not saying that its crazy to buy expensive bags, heck id spend more money than most on a bag. I’ve just been wondering why theirs been a sudden price jump over the past couple years. Well I did my research and theirs two reasons why here’s the first:

People buying fakes

Now I know what your thinking “oh god not another ranting post about fake bags” no that’s not what im getting at, I just find it interesting that the designer handbag world is taking the next step to make replicating more difficult. Think about it, can a Chinese factory really replicate the crocodile Birkin with a diamond incrusted lock and make people think its real? Well if you do then you’re an idiot. Designer companies are making more “hard to copy” bags so the fakers are left in the dust. Now the second reason is:

The “wow” factor

Imagine being one of only a few people owning a $30,000 handbag? Its kinda like owning a top of the line Mercedes, people go “wow.” The designer handbag world knows they’re dealing with celebrities and elite people with money. People with money usually buy nice expensive things, wave a $30,000 handbag in front of their face and they might just grab it. Now ive talked to a lot of people about this subject and heres how the conversation usually goes

“why would you buy a $30,000 handbag?”
the same reason people buy $100,000 cars
“but it’s a handbag!”
“It’s a handbag!!”

Now in my opinion people can spend their money on whatever they want. And shouldn’t be judged by others. Now getting back to the point.

Its interesting to see how times have changed and we now see designer purse prices the equivalent to a down payment on a house. I guess my next question is will the prices keep going up? Will we one day see million dollar handbags on the market? And would you ever spend thiis much on a bag?

The Fendi Baguette is Back Just in Time for the Sex And The City Movie!

Talk about timing! The Sex And The City movie is being filmed in Manhattan NY as we speak (and its about time). Carrie Bradshaw’s “signature bag” the Fendi Baguette (which first came out in 1997) is making its second appearance down the Fendi runway in the Spring 2008 collection. How perfect is this? The Fendi Handbag and TV show that went hand in hand are now making a comeback together 10 years later!

Ps. I bet SJP will carry the new Fendi Baguette in the movie!

Prada Fringe Bags: Love em' or Hate em'?

The Prada Fringe Bag made its debut in Spring 2007. But theirs still alot of talk surrounding it. Some call it one of Pradas newest "it" bags, others call it the "cousin it bag".

Being carried on the shoulders of many celebrities such as Victoria Beckham proves the bag is not a complete dud. I guess it all depends on how you wear it. If worn with a simple outfit the bag stands out and looks fabulous, but if worn with an already over the top outfit the bag looks tacky.

Its interesting though, there are die hard Prada handbag lovers out there who hate this bag, and people who have a new love for prada because of it. I personally love this bag, which is weird because i dont normally go for bags like this. It just seems that people either love the bag or hate it. What do you think??

Gloves: A Hit Handbag Accessory This Season

Well fall is here and gloves are in! So what does that mean to us handbag lovers you are wondering? Everything!

With gloves being the new hot accessory they will draw even more attention to our favorite accessory. The handbag. Nothing is going to ruin the look of your new gloves but an unacceptable handbag. No matter what the length of your gloves a stunning purse is a must.

Personally I don't think you should be too matching with your gloves and handbags. The picture on the Betsey Johnson runway is a perfect way to wear them, you can coordinate things without overly matching. I love the contrast from the handbag to the gloves, it helps you notice both accessories at once, it's perfect.

So next time your shopping and you pick up a pair of fabulous gloves, don't forget to pick up a fabulous handbag to go with them.

Fall 2007 Handbag Trends

Fall is my favorite season for fashion, i love buying new boots, coats, and authentic designer handbags. Before i go out and spend my money i always think about whats "in" this season. Sometimes i find it hard to find a list of the latest trends so i did some research and decided to post what i found.

  • ANIMAL PRINTS: zebra, leopard, tiger you name it, its hot this season! Having a handbag with animal print is a great way to stand out. Alot of people hold back from animal prints because they see them as "trashy" but if worn right they can make an outfiit look sophisticated and sexy.

Michael Michael Kors large leopard print satchel

  • METALLICS: Metallic dresses, handbags, and even makeup are all over the runway this fall season. Adding a metallic accessory to your outfit can make it look edgy yet sophisticated. A metallic handbag is perfect for completing any outfit.

Dolce & Gabbana metallic calfskin satchel

  • EXOTIC SKINS: Reptile skins are another trend alot of people are afraid to try. But times have changed and you can find beautiful snake, lizzard, and crocodile skin handbags that look very elegant. Just make sure you dont go over the top, just one reptile skin accessory is enough.

Yves Saint Laurent crocodile uptown bag

  • PATENT LEATHER: My personal favorite. We saw the patend leather trend alot last year with shoes, but now its back with a bang! Just one patent leather handbag or pair of shoes will make any outfit look super hot. Just remember not to over accessorize.

Marc by Marc Jacobs patent utility tote

These are some of the top trends for fall 2007 fashion. All of these trends make bold statements if worn properly (dont over accessorize). So this season while your doing your fall shopping dont be afraid to try something different. Pick up a new animal print, metallic, reptile skin, or patent leather designer handbag.

Designer Handbag Rant #0001

When you see a designer handbag, do you only like it because of the designer name? If you saw it on another women’s shoulder without the designer logo visible would you still like it? For a lot of people (even though they won't admit it) the answer is no! The majority of people interested designer handbags these days do not know much about the bags themselves, all they know is a designer logo or name. If these people were to see a Fendi Handbag right in front of them they wouldn’t know it was a Fendi unless they could see the logo, therefore they would not like the bag as much. Its extremely frustrating for women who own authentic designer handbags to get comments like “oh I love your Prada Handbag” but in reality if the women making that comment didn’t see the logo on her bag she wouldn’t look twice at it. A lot of “handbag lovers” these days don’t like the bag itself, they just like the logo, and just because these people recognize a couple logos doesn’t make them handbag enthusiasts.

Bright Pink Is The New Black

Finally my dream has come true, bright pink is the new black. Well I guess you can never replace black, but you are seeing bright colors like pink and purple on the runway more than ever right now.

I love it, I love bright. Personally for me, if it's not bright, it's boring. You notice the bright colors especially in the Dior ads lately, bright green is also a big color for Dior right now.

This season is definitely brightening up for me, I can't wait to dive into a sea of bright colors. I hope this season lasts forever!

If You Were A Designer Handbag, Which One Would You Be?

Sorry I have been gone for a bit, I took a short internet free vacation. This maybe silly to ask, but I want to know, if you were a designer handbag, which one would you be?

I had to really think about this, I wanted to choose one that suited my personality, but also comfy. I figure hey, if you have to be this bag, you better be comfy yet cute while being it. So many designers to choose from. Juicy comes to mind, lots of Juicy bags are definitely cute and comfy at the same time! After that, the Prada red leather tote bag appears in mind. So many bags, how to choose just one that suits you the most, and in what color!

After a long time thinking I figured I'd just never be able to choose. But then it came to me, without a doubt in my mind this bag was mine. From the Marc Jacobs Collection the Quilted Elatsic Stam in black. It's perfect, stylish, comfy, roomy, all the things you need in your handbag. I choose black, really because it's my favorite color, and you can wear it with anything, My personality really suits bright pink, but that's a little hard to get away with all the time. So I figure why fight the black, it's always in!

Goodbye Floaty Frocks, Hello Fall

This blog isn't about handbags, but it is about fashion and something I'll miss once summer is completely gone. I'm so sad summer is leaving and fall is coming, of course I'm excited on some respects, I've already seen some fall styles I'm dying to wear, like long sleeved gloves. I can't wait. But I'm sad because floaty frocks will be gone. Summer is gone pretty much and I guess it's almost time to let go. I can't though! I swear I'll be the girl wearing frocks in the winter!

I do like the new style with the slimming dresses and the little belts, but I just loved those cute frocks, with a little bit bigger of a belt. Mostly because I could wear them. You have to look like a model to wear the new style, at least the summery frocks made anyone look good!

I guess no matter what I do I can't stop summer from leaving, I guess all that I can hope for is for frocks to be in next summer! Also maybe I should start going to the gym more....

Which Came First, The Designer Or The Bag?

Which came first, the designer or the bag? The reason I'm asking is just cause I'm trying to figure out how handbags came along. For instance did someone foresee a bag for women to carry and go from there? Or were people already carrying bags and someone just decided to make them pretty and charge a hell of a lot for them.

Well it turns out handbags go back all the way past Medieval times, and apparently men were the first ones to carry handbags! Women wore bags around their waist, the smaller the bag the higher in class you were. Peasants had to carry bigger bags around their waists for carrying more tools and such for work.

Could you imagine if guys were the ones carrying handbags and girls just wore fanny packs! I think that would be hilarious, but I guess if your used to something it's not so funny, it's normal.

So it seems the bag came first, people made their own bags in earlier times, then designers started showing up in the 1800's and 1900's.

Are You Structured Or Slouchy?

Some people like there eggs over easy, some people like them scrambled, there are many ways to have your eggs, but even more ways to have your handbags.

Depending on your style, you can choose a bag exactly how you want it, there are millions of different styles of handbags. Soft, rough, structured, slouchy, big, small, plain, outrageous, you name it you can find it. You can have a different style of bag for every day of the year if you really wanted to!

Most people don't have that many styles. Lots of people like stick to the same type of style because that's who they are, some people have many types of styles and can wear almost anything. For some handbags only certain people with certain styles, can pull off. Who are you? Do you like your bag structured? How about slouchy? How do you like your handbags done?

Designer Labels And The Outdoors

Being from a small logging town, I like to call myself an outdoors girl. Last week on my trip back home to see my parents, reality sunk in...

While I was up there, an old friend drove me out to a small waterfall to look at. On the drive up there I almost had a heart attack driving down the scary dirt road, up a giant mountain. The whole way I was worried my dress was getting dirty in the car!

We get to the top of the dirt road and we have to walk down a trail to get to see the falls. So here I am in a frock, and Betsey Johnson heels, clutching on to my Marc Jacobs Multi Pocket Mini struggling to get down this small trail, tripping over rocks and twigs. By the time I had gotten to the falls I was dusty and to my horror there was a spider on me! That was it, I lost it, I screamed, freaked out, flailing around frantically trying to get the spider off. Once I was sure not one bug was on me I stormed back up to the car and forced my friend to take me home to change out of my dusty clothes.

By the time I had gotten back home to my parents house it hit me. I am definitely NOT an outdoors girl, I have solidly transformed into a bone-fide city girl, without even noticing. So this brings up a thinker, can you be both? A sexy bushwacker wearing Prada and Christian Louboutins? It seems a little out there... What do you think? do you think it's possible to look pretty and go camping at the same time? Although, it seems weird to combine the two....

House or Handbag? Can't We Have Both?

Well we all know that one designer handbag is never enough, but do we really need to collect handbags like little boys collect rocks. I already have a good chunk of money invested in my handbag collection, and I sure don't see an end to the collection coming anytime soon. But when does it cross the line from a bit of spending to a down payment on a house.

At first you have you a have a couple nice handbags and pairs of shoes, next thing you know your Carrie Bradshaw. Your over thirty years old, still paying rent, and you have to get your divorced best friend to give you her engagement ring for a down payment on your apartment to live. But hey, she had some really nice Manolo's, and Gucci's, and Prada's.... Well you get the picture. Do you really wanna end up like that?

I am really a hypocrite here, I can't save money. Every time I do save money, I just buy something more expensive, it just does not work. But is there a way to still have the oh so unattainable, fashionable handbags and a down payment on a house at the same time? Because if there is a way, I'd like to know. I'm sure you would like to know too!

Look Nice with Nice Things (i.e. Designer Handbags)

I just don't get it, the other day someone asked me how much my bag was, I told them, they were shocked at the amount I'd spent (especially since I was saying what a great deal I had found on it, which it was a great deal). I asked her how much she spent on her not-so-stunning bag, and she said $15.99. Come on!

Are you really so cheap that you won't spend more than $20 on a handbag. You will carry it numerous times. I'm not saying spend thousands, I just don't understand why you wouldn't want to look great with nice things. You could even get a really stylish, not so top designer handbag for like $50 - $60. You can also get a cheaper, out of season designer handbag for like $100 - $200.

I'd say that's the trick, buying not too old, but out of season designer handbags, the price tag gets cut so low compared to original price. They are still top quality, handmade, stunning designer handbags. If you cannot afford to pay the top handbag prices, this is the best step in the right direction.

But overall I guess my point is just that I don't understand why you would not want to wear nice things. People who don't know you are judging you by what your wearing, don't you want them to think you look great?

For example the
Prada Handbag MV633 Pink Vela in the picture above is sold at Designer Purse Shop for $119.00.

The Top 5 Reasons Why Buying A Replica Handbag Is Stupid

Well there sure is more than five reasons why it's stupid to buy a replica handbag, but I figured I could narrow it down to the most important reasons to get my point across. Starting from what's least important to what's most important, here we go:

Number 5: They just look tacky and ridiculous.

With the labels slightly wrong, and the colors off, they definitely do not look like the glamorous bag they are trying to look like. Your not fooling anyone, everyone knows it's fake. You wonder why everyone is staring, you think maybe it's because they like your bag, you think they don't know, but in fact they're staring because they hate it.

Number 4: So many people have them.

You see them everyone, fake Louis Vuitton is popular, Chanel, Coach, hell I've even seen fake Le Sportsac. Why on earth would you want to carry around a hideous thirty dollar cheaply made knock off when everyone has the same cheaply made knock off as you, if the fake Louis Vuitton makes you feel good, get a load of the real thing!

Number 3: The bag itself is complete crap.

Take some look-alike-leather and some crappy fabric lining, top it off with a three cent zipper and some shoddy stitching and we have ourselves a replica handbag, that millions of people will buy! Think about it. Do you really want to carry that. Your clothes speak to people about who you are, is that really what you want them to say?

Number 2: These bags usually are associated with organized crime.

Do you think a happy family just makes these bags on the side just to sell them to you for and extra buck? No. There are made illegally, mass produced all around the world. Think of the money that could go into your country, all the taxes. I know having to pay tax on clothes and handbags is not that great, but really, who would you rather benefit, your country or the mob?

Number 1: These bags are also associated with child labour.

How on earth could you wear something a small child was forced to make. Many times in counterfeit busts children were found living in factories, forced to work all day, some with just buckets beside them to go to the washroom. Now really, could you support that? Do you want to be a part of that? Think of a child you know, being forced into those conditions, how do you feel about the replica handbags now?

I hope my five points got across to you, I'm not saying give up your designer dreams, I'm saying actually be a part of them. Look online for good deals, watch out for the fakes of course! Become a bargain hunter, shop last season! There are many ways to go about this! Now put that replica handbag down and go get a real designer handbag!

When Does It Cross That Line Into Crazy Land?

Clearly shopping with designer labels is pricey, usually worth it though in my point of view, but when does the price tag cross that line into insanity.

Talking to my friend on the phone yesterday, I made her promise that she would one day if I am ever so rich, that I plan to buy the $150,000 diamond encrusted crocodile Birkin, slap me out of it, tell me to suck it up, buy the extensively expensive Louis Vuitton Patchwork bag for $42,000 and give the rest to charity.

Does it really get to the point where you would spend the amount of a small apartment on a designer handbag? I guess so. Do we really wanna wear a mansions worth of money out somewhere though?

I do wanna be well off, and I would wear thousands of dollars worth of clothes if I could. But I think wearing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of clothes is a bit crazy.

If The Bag Fits....

Have your ever heard the expression: if the shoe fits...? Well you can use that expression with bags too. In fact the bag someone is carrying says quite a lot about them, it can be misleading sometimes, but you can usually tell if you look hard enough.

For instance, looking at me, at first glance you might think maybe that I'm reserved and sophisticated with so many chic black and brown bags in my closet. But if you look harder, you will see baby pink bags, showing my feminine side, and then if you look more you will see bright pink bags. This is what I mean about looking hard, at first I look kind of boring, but if you examine the evidence properly, it appears I like to stand out with bright colors, and noticeable bags. Which is me, I like bright, I like flashy, I like eye-catching, and I believe anyone with a bright pink bag likes flashy and eye-catching as well,

See what I mean, so next time someone calls me attention grabbing, I can't deny it, remember, if the bag fits.... So next time you see someone carrying the LV Patchwork Bag, it may be safe to assume they are a rich stuck up snob, and they can't deny it, because if the bag fits....
